How to Play

Klondike Solitaire is one of many solitaire games, which are also known as patience games in Europe. Here is an outline of the bedrock principles: You need one player, 52 French-suited cards, and a table with three zones, called tableau, foundation, and stock.

In the tableau, you place multiple card piles with each top card revealed. The stock holds all remaining cards face-down to draw from. Now, you must combine the revealed cards tactically in order to reveal and free all cards on the table. The game is solved by placing all cards correctly sorted in the foundation.

Each step of the game follows specific rules, which you can find in detail in our free Solitaire manual. Informative explanations of individual Solitaire terms can be found in our alphabetical Solitaire glossary.

While it sounds easy at first, it packs a punch! Some classic Solitaire games are difficult to solve, and, rarely, one cannot be solved. As there are also countless Solitaire variations, with variations in the setup and difficulty level, we offer you plenty of custom rules.

Multiplayer Mode

Solitaire and multiplayer mode are not mutually exclusive: At the Solitaire Palace, you can play free Solitaire live against fellow players from around the world! At the table, everybody gets to solve the same setup to make the solution process comparable. Then, it is about who reaches the solution most effectively and fastest. Every move counts! Focus and solve the game with as few moves and stock rotations as possible!

Just get Started

Jump right into the game and learn it by doing. You can start playing on mobile devices without registering an account, for example. The Quick Match button will place you at a table with compatible players. Alternatively, you can select a table by hand. Once you start playing, you are automatically collecting experience points. With these, you can level up bit by bit.

For playing online using devices with smaller screens, we offer additional deck patterns which are optimized specifically for legibility.

Play Solitaire Online

Over the span of a Solitaire game, many cards are moving over and over. That requires extra focus and attention to not mix up the playing field. Luckily, there is an easy fix: Play free and digitally at the Solitaire Palace! Solitaire gained its massive popularity only after the PC was developed. That is likely due to the computer’s strength in reliably and correctly fulfilling boring tasks. You get to focus on solving the game while the computer arranges the playing field and enforces rules.

Play Solitaire online as you prefer – using a PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone! Solitaire Palace is available cross-device and cross-platform:

  • as a browser game
  • as Windows software
  • via Facebook

All our games support portrait and landscape mode on mobile devices. Especially when on the go, you are free to switch between playing with one or two hands. The interface adjusts automatically and displays the cards in optimal size. So much for the modern possibilities of playing Solitaire.
